‘RSP is a Temporary Alliance of Anarchic Groups’, Alleges UML Parliamentary Party Leader Thapa

Kathmandu. CPN-UML parliamentary party leader Ram Bahadur Thapa has raised serious questions over the ideological foundation and political character of the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

Speaking at a meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, he alleged that the RSP is not a party based on any well-organised or coherent ideology, but rather a temporary alliance of overly ambitious and anarchic groups that emerged suddenly and unexpectedly.

“The RSP is not a party based on any well-equipped ideology. It is a temporary alliance of overly ambitious, anarchic groups that emerged suddenly and unexpectedly. It stands on the marshy foundation of eclecticism philosophically and populism politically,” Thapa stated. He further said, “This is an extremely opportunistic and unstable tendency. It appears very pleasing in form, but in essence and outcome, it is extremely harmful. It is also an attractive art of glamour and stunt.”

He also raised questions over the role of the Nepal Army. Questioning the army’s intentions, he stated that the army remained silent when national heritage sites were set ablaze, yet stood up to clear squatter settlements.
