Parliament Adjourned for the Third Time Due to Prime Minister’s Absence, Next Sitting on Thursday

Kathmandu – The House of Representatives meeting was adjourned for the third time on Wednesday and postponed until Thursday, after opposition parties continued their obstruction demanding the presence of Prime Minister Balen Shah during the discussion on the government’s Policy and Programme. The opposition had also disrupted two earlier sittings held on the same day.

With opposition lawmakers adamant that the discussion on the Policy and Programme could not proceed in the Prime Minister’s absence, they repeatedly prevented the House from functioning. Speaker Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal eventually adjourned Wednesday’s proceedings, scheduling the next sitting for Thursday. The Speaker had appealed on multiple occasions for cooperation in running the House, but the opposition persisted with their obstruction.

Prime Minister Shah has been under fire from the opposition after he walked out midway through the President’s reading of the Policy and Programme at the joint sitting of Parliament on Monday and remained absent from the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday as well.
