Lavrov-Rodriguez Talks on the Sidelines of the BRICS Meeting: Demand for an End to the US Blockade Against Cuba

New Delhi – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla held bilateral talks on May 15 on the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. The two foreign ministers reviewed current issues on the bilateral agenda in a friendly and constructive atmosphere and exchanged views on regional and international matters.
Both sides reaffirmed their unwavering position on the inadmissibility of unilateral sanctions imposed in disregard of the United Nations Charter. The Russian side expressed its readiness to assist Havana in advancing its legitimate demand for the immediate lifting of the US trade, economic and financial blockade of the island, as well as Cuba’s removal from the US list of “state sponsors” of terrorism.
Amid the unprecedented escalation of the situation, Russia confirmed its readiness to provide Havana with relevant political, diplomatic and material support. The talks reaffirmed the strategic solidarity between the two traditional friendly nations and their shared opposition to Western unilateralism.
