Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang Walks on Foot to Attend Cheque Distribution Programme

Gangtok. Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), proving himself to be a true people’s leader, walked on foot from Mintokgang to Manan Kendra in Gangtok today to attend a cheque distribution programme.

The Chief Minister covered a distance of approximately three kilometres from his official residence at Mintokgang in the state capital to reach Manan Kendra. Along the way, he met with local residents, shopkeepers, and pedestrians in the manner of an ordinary citizen. He paused at several points along the roadside to speak with people, while some stopped him to share their grievances. The Chief Minister listened patiently to everyone and assured them that their concerns would be addressed.

This simple yet powerful gesture reflects the Chief Minister’s direct and close connection with the people. His walk was not part of any formal programme, but rather a spontaneous effort to convey the message that he remains one among the people as an ordinary citizen.

At the cheque distribution programme organised at Manan Kendra, Chief Minister Tamang handed over cheques to beneficiaries under various welfare schemes. The event forms part of the SKM government’s continued commitment towards public welfare and inclusive development. Local media reported that the Chief Minister’s initiative has further bridged the distance between the state government and the people, sending a clear message that the government stands close to its citizens.
