“Wait for the Next Election to Get Your Own Language Endorsed”: Finance Minister Wagle’s Arrogant Reply to Opposition

Kathmandu. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has told opposition parties that they must wait for the next election if they wish to get their own language and documents endorsed. He made the arrogant remarks on Tuesday while responding to questions raised by opposition parties in the House of Representatives on the principles and priorities of the appropriation bill for the upcoming fiscal year presented by the government.

Finance Minister Wagle stated that the government had based its policies and programmes, as well as the principles and priorities of the appropriation budget, on the election manifesto of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, which he claimed had been endorsed by the people. He added that opposition parties would have to wait for the next election if they wished to mould these to their own liking. He insisted that the government was moving forward in accordance with the language, style, philosophy, and substance approved by the people.

“The language, style, philosophy, substance—whatever has been presented here—is exactly that which has been endorsed by the people. Before contesting the election, we had set out one hundred foundations for transformation in our manifesto. If one accepts that the people endorsed precisely that, then the one hundred governance reform roadmaps that have been brought forward on that very basis constitute our policies and programmes, and the principles and priorities of this appropriation bill. Now, if you wish to get your own language and your own documents endorsed, you will have to wait for the next election,” he said.
