Xizang Delegation’s Nepal Visit Expected to Inject New Energy into Nepal-China Cooperation

Kathmandu — The Nepal-China Mutual Cooperation Society has extended a warm welcome to the delegation led by Zhao Peng, Vice Chairman of the Xizang (Tibet) Autonomous Regional Government of the People’s Republic of China, and wished the visit a success.

The Society expressed its honour in welcoming Vice Chairman Chao and his delegation to Kathmandu through a formal diplomatic letter on Monday. The delegation includes members Pao Ting, Ta Chen, Ka Lie, Wu Kang and Sireng Yangjee.

In the letter signed by Society President Prem Sagar Poudel, it is stated that the relationship between Nepal and China stands on the deep foundation of history, geography, culture, mutual respect and trust. The Society noted that since the Xizang Autonomous Region is the closest neighbouring territory connected to Nepal across the Himalayas, its role is significant in people-to-people relations, trade, culture, tourism and cross-border cooperation between the two countries.

The letter states, “The Xizang Autonomous Region is a living bridge of the historical, cultural and economic relations between Nepal and China. The cooperation between our territories nestled in the lap of the Himalayas has been leaving a deep positive impact at the people’s level as well.”

The Society expressed confidence that Vice Chairman Chao’s Nepal visit will help further strengthen bilateral ties, expand cross-border contacts and open new possibilities for cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The visit is expected to have a positive impact in the fields of cultural exchange, tourism promotion, trade facilitation, educational cooperation, people-to-people friendship and regional cooperation.

The Nepal-China Mutual Cooperation Society stated that it has long been active in promoting friendship, goodwill, mutual understanding, cultural exchange, economic cooperation and people-to-people relations between Nepal and China. According to the Society, the relationship between the two countries has been growing stronger not only at the government level but also at the people’s level, and the need of the hour is to make it more institutional and practical.

Noting that the importance of mutual trust, stability, development and cooperation has grown further in the current regional and international context, the letter considers the Nepal visit of the delegation led by Chao Peng to be particularly meaningful. The Society expressed confidence that the meetings and dialogues to be held during the visit will make Nepal-China relations more trustworthy, practical and result-oriented.

The Society extended best wishes for the delegation’s visit to be successful, fruitful and memorable, and stated its readiness to offer goodwill, assistance and facilitation if required.

Copies of the letter have also been sent to the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Nepal, and the Foreign Affairs Office of the Xizang Autonomous Regional Government.

At a time when diplomatic, economic, cultural and people-to-people relations between Nepal and China have been becoming more active in recent years, this visit by the Xizang delegation is expected to give new momentum to cooperation connected across the Himalayas.
