Russian Ambassador Surovtsev Attends Prime Minister Shah’s Meeting with Foreign Envoys

Kathmandu. His Excellency Mr. Aleksei V. Surovtsev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Nepal, took part in a meeting between Right Honourable Prime Minister of Nepal Mr. Balendra Shah and the heads of foreign diplomatic missions.

According to the Russian Embassy, the meeting was held on 26 May 2026 at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. Heads of various foreign diplomatic missions based in Nepal attended the meeting, during which Russian Ambassador Surovtsev also participated.

The meeting is being viewed as part of the Government of Nepal’s effort to strengthen regular dialogue with the diplomatic community based in Kathmandu. Such engagements provide an opportunity to exchange views on matters of mutual interest, promote diplomatic understanding and convey Nepal’s national priorities to foreign partners in a coordinated manner.

Prime Minister Shah has recently given priority to collective engagement with the heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Nepal. Instead of limiting diplomatic interaction only to separate courtesy calls, the government has sought to promote broader institutional dialogue with representatives of the international community.

The interaction at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers is considered significant in terms of enhancing communication between the Government of Nepal and foreign diplomatic missions. It is expected to support cooperation in areas such as development partnership, economic collaboration, people-to-people relations and mutual understanding.

Nepal and Russia have maintained long-standing friendly relations based on mutual respect, cooperation and goodwill. In this context, Ambassador Surovtsev’s participation in the meeting reflects the continuity of diplomatic engagement between Nepal and the Russian Federation.

The meeting also underscored the importance Nepal attaches to constructive relations with the wider diplomatic community. Such forums are expected to contribute to greater trust, cooperation and coordination between Nepal and its international partners.
