Russia to Support UNIDO Project on Aral Sea Ecosystem Restoration

The Russian Federation has decided to provide support to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) project titled “Applying remote sensing and geographical information systems for the Aral Sea ecosystem restoration and industrial revitalization.”
Announced on June 4, 2026, the program aims to assist Uzbekistan in establishing intelligent ecosystem management using remote sensing tools, monitoring and analyzing geospatial data, and improving relevant infrastructure.
The project was developed by UNIDO specialists at the request of the Uzbekistan side. It includes activities to restore the natural environment in the Aral Sea region, enhance economic development, implement technological innovations, and create new business opportunities, including in agricultural processing and industrial production.
The three-year project is designed for implementation with the support of the Russian Federation.
