RSP Holding Conventions in 28 Districts Today, Plans to Complete 67 Districts Before General Convention

Kathmandu. The ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is holding its first conventions in 28 districts today. According to Central Election Commission Chief Bhuvan Kesi, conventions are taking place in four districts of Koshi Province, four in Madhesh, two in Bagmati, four in Gandaki, three in Lumbini, six in Karnali, and five in Sudurpashchim.
The districts holding conventions today include Udayapur, Solukhumbu, Khotang, Ilam, Siraha, Dhanusha, Parsa, Sarlahi, Chitwan, Dolakha, Tanahun, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), Gorkha, Lamjung, Arghakhanchi, Rupandehi, Pyuthan, Surkhet, Jajarkot, Dailekh, Rukum (West), Mugu, Jumla, Achham, Doti, Kailali, Kanchanpur, and Bajura. Chief Kesi informed that a three-member election committee has been deployed in each district to conduct the district convention election process in a fair manner.
The RSP had already completed conventions in 38 districts on Saturday. New leadership has been elected in Jhapa, Morang, Tehrathum, Taplejung, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Okhaldhunga, Sunsari, Mahottari, Rautahat, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Nuwakot, Dhading, Makwanpur, Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, Sindhuli, Syangja, Kaski, Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Gulmi, Nawalparasi, Palpa, Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Rolpa, Kalikot, Salyan, Baitadi, Bajhang, and Darchula.
Stating that the district conventions are an important step in transforming the party from an ad-hoc structure into a fully legitimate and publicly mandated structure, the commission has urged all stakeholders to conduct the internal democratic exercise in a clean, fair, and peaceful manner. The party has stated that due to special organizational circumstances, the Bara district convention will be held on Jestha 26.
The RSP plans to complete conventions in 67 out of 77 districts before the first National General Convention, with conventions in the remaining 10 districts to be held after the General Convention. Provincial conventions will commence from Jestha 26, and a five-member provincial election committee has been formed in each of the seven provinces to conduct them. The RSP’s first National General Convention will be held in Chitwan from Asar 7 to 9.
