When Probe Committee Asked About Assets, Gurung’s Witty Retort: ‘Let’s Investigate Yours Too’

Former Home Minister and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Sudhan Gurung has expressed optimism that he will be cleared of the questions raised about his assets. Addressing the first district convention of RASWAPA in Gorkha on Sunday, he stated that he is fully responsible for answering questions raised while holding public office. He claimed that he resigned from his ministerial post solely to facilitate the investigation process.
Gurung said the committee asked tough questions about his assets during the probe, and he gave clear answers. Recalling a light-hearted exchange during his statement to the committee, Gurung said, “The committee asked me, ‘Where did you bring so much wealth from?’ I responded with a counter-question, ‘Let’s investigate your assets as well.'” He informed that the committee’s report has reached the Prime Minister’s Office and expressed confidence that he will be fully exonerated.
Hinting at the possibility of being reinstated as Home Minister after being proven innocent, Gurung made a request, “If the government makes me Home Minister again after I am cleared, I ask that no one come to the ministry to congratulate and take photos for the first two months.” During his address, Gurung also spoke about RASWAPA’s organization building and the working style of future leadership, emphasizing that the district president should not be Kathmandu-centric and that the leadership must remain in constant touch with the people.
