Border Expert Buddhi Narayan Shrestha to Receive Bhimsen Thapa Award

Kathmandu. The National Luminary Bhimsen Thapa Foundation has decided to confer this year’s Bhimsen Thapa Award on noted border expert Buddhi Narayan Shrestha.

Shrestha has been selected for the award in recognition of his long and consistent contribution to the study, documentation and public advocacy of Nepal’s borders, maps and territorial integrity.

According to the foundation, Shrestha will be honoured with a cash prize of Rs 101,111 and a certificate of appreciation. The award will be presented on Shrawan 9, coinciding with the 252nd birth anniversary of national luminary Bhimsen Thapa.

Shrestha is widely known for his research and public engagement on Nepal’s border-related issues, including historical maps, border management and sensitive territorial matters such as Kalapani, Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Susta.

The foundation said Shrestha was chosen for the award for his notable contribution to the country and its people through continuous work on matters related to Nepal’s borders.

For nearly three decades, the foundation has been honouring individuals or organisations that have made significant contributions to history, national interest and public life in memory of Bhimsen Thapa.

Last year, the award was presented to Dr. Bhekh Bahadur Thapa for his significant contribution to Nepal’s diplomacy and economy.

The foundation’s decision to honour Shrestha is being viewed as recognition of intellectual and professional work in the field of border studies at a time when issues of sovereignty, geography and national interest remain highly sensitive for Nepal.
