Deputy Speaker Rubi Kumari Thakur joined local farmers in paddy plantation on the occasion of National Paddy Day and the Paddy Plantation Festival.

Deputy Speaker Thakur participated in the plantation program held in a sharecropped field at Mujeliya, Ward No. 14 of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City in Dhanusha district.

Speaking to journalists after the plantation, Deputy Speaker Thakur said farmers play a vital role in food security and food production. She noted that agriculture is directly linked to the country’s economy, food self-sufficiency and rural life.

Deputy Speaker Thakur said it was a matter of serious concern that farmers still do not receive chemical fertilizers, improved seeds, adequate irrigation, proper market access and fair prices for their produce on time. She stressed the need to formulate effective policies and programs aimed at modernizing the agricultural sector, increasing production and improving the living standards of farmers.

Expressing her commitment to continuously raise her voice for resolving farmers’ problems, she emphasized the need to develop agriculture as a dignified, commercial and self-reliant foundation of the national economy.

She also said that formulating farmer-friendly policies alone would not be enough, adding that coordinated efforts among all state bodies are necessary for their effective implementation.

Local farmers, elected representatives and members of the general public also participated in the paddy plantation program organized on the occasion of National Paddy Day.
