Russia and the United Arab Emirates have called for an immediate end to the ongoing exchanges of strikes between the United States and Iran and the early resumption of diplomatic negotiations.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed the latest situation in the Persian Gulf during a telephone conversation on July 18, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The two ministers stressed the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the swift revival of negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict through diplomatic means.

They also emphasised the importance of ensuring stable, unhindered and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically vital route for the global economy.

Any disruption or deterioration of security in the waterway could have serious consequences for global energy supplies, trade and shipping, they noted.

The ministers also discussed ways to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Russia and the UAE, including the expansion of cooperation in trade, the economy, education and sports.

Lavrov and Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed their mutual interest in maintaining close foreign policy coordination, both bilaterally and through various international platforms.
