Russia’s National School-Leaving Exam to Begin No Earlier Than June 1

Russia’s Unified State Examination, known as the EGE, will begin no earlier than June 1 in the coming years.

Anzor Muzaev, head of Russia’s Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science, known as Rosobrnadzor, said in an interview with the Russian news agency TASS that the revised examination schedule would remain in effect in future years.

According to Muzaev, setting the examination period after June 1 will allow schools to complete their academic-year programmes smoothly, give examination centres sufficient time to prepare and provide students with additional time for final preparation.

Rosobrnadzor had previously announced that, beginning in 2026, the EGE would not start before June 1. The decision is also intended to prevent preparations at schools used as examination centres from disrupting regular classes.

The Unified State Examination is Russia’s national examination for students completing secondary education. Its results are used both for final school certification and for admission to universities.

The examination is administered through coordination between Rosobrnadzor and regional education authorities across Russia.
