Lavrov Extends Greetings on 70th Anniversary of Nepal–Russia Relations

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has sent a message of greetings to Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal on the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Russia.

In the message issued on July 20, Lavrov said relations between the two countries had always been characterised by friendship, mutual respect and due regard for each other’s fundamental interests.

He reaffirmed Russia’s readiness to work with Nepal to further strengthen bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of both countries.

“I am confident that Russian-Nepalese cooperation will continue to contribute to regional and international stability and security,” Lavrov said.

He also wished Minister Khanal and all officials at Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs good health and continued success.

Nepal and the former Soviet Union formally established diplomatic relations on July 20, 1956. Since then, the two countries have cooperated in political dialogue, education, development, culture and people-to-people relations.
