China’s meteorological authority has renewed a yellow alert as heavy to torrential rain is forecast across several regions of the country.

According to the National Meteorological Center, parts of Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Yunnan and Xinjiang are expected to experience heavy to torrential rain over the next 24 hours.

Rainfall in some areas of Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong and Guangxi could reach between 100 and 200 millimetres, the centre said.

Some regions may also experience severe convective weather, including thunderstorms, strong winds and hail.

The meteorological authority urged local governments to prepare for possible flooding, waterlogging, landslides and other rain-related disasters.

Traffic management departments were advised to impose necessary controls on roads affected by heavy rain and guide vehicles safely through waterlogged areas.

China operates a four-tier, colour-coded weather warning system. Red represents the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
