China and Brazil Move to Deepen Strategic Coordination and AI Cooperation

China and Brazil have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding strategic dialogue, multilateral coordination and practical cooperation in emerging fields, including artificial intelligence.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira discussed the strategic partnership between their countries, trade, finance, aerospace, connectivity and artificial intelligence during a meeting in Manila on Wednesday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said China and Brazil should maintain strategic communication, strengthen coordination and deepen cooperation.
He said the two countries had made positive progress, under the strategic guidance of their heads of state, in building a China-Brazil community with a shared future for a more just world and a more sustainable planet.
Wang described the China-Brazil strategic partnership as being at the forefront of international relations. He said Brazil was an emerging economy with global influence and an important representative force of the Global South.
China welcomes a greater Brazilian role in international affairs and appreciates its efforts to uphold justice and defend the rights and interests of developing countries, Wang said.
He added that China would continue supporting Brazil in safeguarding its sovereignty, security and development interests, while expressing confidence that Brazil would continue to respect and support China in matters involving its core interests.
Wang said China was ready to work with Brazil to implement the important consensus reached by their leaders and expand cooperation in aerospace, connectivity, artificial intelligence and other sectors.
He also welcomed Brazil’s participation in the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization, saying the platform could help protect common interests and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation during the latest wave of technological transformation.
Vieira said the leaders of the two countries had maintained close communication, established a high degree of mutual trust and jointly guided bilateral relations to a high level.
He noted that exchanges at different levels had remained frequent and that bilateral trade reached a new record last year.
Brazil looks forward to deepening cooperation with China in finance, trade and other areas, while strengthening coordination through the United Nations, BRICS and other multilateral platforms, Vieira said.
He added that Brazil was pleased to join the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization initiated by China and hoped to use the platform to advance cooperation in scientific and technological innovation.
Representatives of 29 countries signed an agreement in Shanghai on July 16 to establish the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization.
The organization aims to promote international cooperation on artificial intelligence and support its safe, fair and orderly development through stronger global governance.
The Manila meeting showed that relations between China and Brazil are expanding beyond traditional trade and diplomatic cooperation into artificial intelligence, aerospace technology and the reform of global governance.
