US Pauses Strikes on Iran as Vance Raises Concerns Over Escalation

US Vice President JD Vance has expressed concern about the possibility of further escalation in the military conflict between the United States and Iran, CNN reported, citing informed sources.

A Pentagon source confirmed to the network that offensive operations against Iran had been paused for the time being. The source said the military campaign was currently “on hold,” but it remained unclear what had prompted the Department of Defense to suspend the strikes.

The pause came after 13 consecutive nights of US air attacks on Iran. However, the US military said the maritime blockade imposed on Iran remained fully in place.

According to CNN, Vance and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine raised concerns with President Donald Trump during a White House meeting on Friday about the pressure a prolonged conflict could place on US weapons and ammunition stockpiles.

Concerns are reportedly growing within the US administration over the possible consequences of a wider conflict for regional stability, American military reserves, Gulf partners and global energy supplies.

A senior Trump administration official said the president continued to prioritise a diplomatic solution but would keep military options open if Iran failed to engage in serious negotiations.

The halt in attacks does not amount to a formal ceasefire. The United States has not ruled out resuming military operations, while diplomatic efforts toward possible talks with Iran are continuing.

Vance has previously argued that the dispute with Iran cannot be resolved through military force alone and that dialogue and diplomacy should accompany any military action.
