Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that China is ready to further strengthen bilateral and multilateral strategic coordination with Brazil.

According to China’s official Xinhua News Agency, Xi made the remarks during a telephone conversation with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Monday.

Xi said positive progress had been made in recent years in building a China-Brazil community with a shared future and aligning the two countries’ development strategies.

He said such progress had contributed to the development of both countries, improved the well-being of their peoples and added valuable stability to an increasingly volatile international environment.

Noting that this year marks the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the beginning of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, Xi said Brazil was also approaching an important domestic political agenda.

Under these circumstances, he said, China and Brazil should strengthen strategic coordination and maintain the positive momentum in building a community with a shared future.

Xi said China and Brazil, as important members of the Global South, should firmly stand on the right side of history and on the side of human progress while responding to new circumstances and challenges.

He said the two countries should play a greater constructive role in reforming and improving the global governance system and safeguarding international fairness and justice.

Xi called on both sides to jointly promote the high-quality development of expanded BRICS cooperation, chart the right direction for cooperation, maintain the momentum of unity and deliver more practical outcomes.

Such efforts, he said, could open a new chapter of solidarity and self-reliance for the Global South.

Xi said China highly values Brazil’s international status and influence.

He added that China supports Brazil in safeguarding its sovereignty and independence, opposing external interference and contributing to regional and global peace and stability.
