Nepali Congress leader Bhishma Raj Angdembe has demanded an impartial, independent and transparent investigation into the violent incident in Kaptanganj of Dewanganj Rural Municipality–3, Sunsari.

In a statement, Angdembe said the Home Ministry’s failure to maintain peace and public order in the district represented a serious weakness. He said the government must take responsibility for the incident and the home minister should provide an immediate explanation.

He stressed that all sides must exercise the highest level of restraint during such a sensitive situation. Noting that violence, arson, vandalism and retaliation cannot resolve any problem, he urged both communities to remain calm, maintain tolerance and protect mutual harmony.

“Security personnel must also comply with the law and exercise maximum restraint while maintaining an environment of peace and security,” Angdembe said. “The government must conduct an impartial, independent and transparent investigation, disclose the facts and take legal action against those responsible.”

Reiterating that the inability to maintain peace and public order reflected a serious failure of the Home Ministry, he said the government must accept full responsibility for the incident and the home minister must answer clearly.

Angdembe claimed that public dissatisfaction with the government had intensified in recent times. He said the repeated occurrence of sensitive incidents involving peace, security and social tolerance showed that the government had failed to discharge its responsibilities effectively.

He also stressed that people in responsible positions and those with public influence must not use social media to spread intolerance, provocation or communal distrust during such a sensitive period.

Describing the protection of peace, social harmony and mutual trust as a shared responsibility, Angdembe urged the public not to follow provocations or rumours. He called on all sides to seek solutions through dialogue, tolerance, mutual respect and legal processes.
