U.S. Military Claims All Ballistic Missiles Launched from Iran Were Intercepted

The U.S. military has claimed that it successfully intercepted multiple ballistic missiles launched from Iran toward American military bases in the Middle East.

In a post on the social media platform X on Tuesday, the U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM, said Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched the missiles at 5:45 pm Eastern Time in what it described as an attempted “surprise attack” on U.S. forces.

“All Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted,” CENTCOM said, adding that U.S. forces remained vigilant and at a high state of readiness. Iran did not immediately issue an official response to the U.S. claim.

CNN, citing a U.S. official, reported that Iran had launched no more than four ballistic missiles. CENTCOM, however, did not disclose the exact number of missiles.

Earlier on Tuesday, CENTCOM said it had redirected 18 commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz while enforcing a U.S.-declared naval blockade on Iranian ports. The command also claimed that U.S. forces had disabled two vessels and boarded two others for inspection and enforcement action.

According to CENTCOM, more than 20 U.S. Navy warships are operating across the Middle East in support of military missions.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that he had decided to temporarily pause American strikes on Iran to give negotiations another opportunity. He also warned that he could order further military action if the talks failed.

The U.S. claim that Iran launched ballistic missiles has renewed uncertainty over the prospects for negotiations. Tehran’s official position on the incident and independent confirmation of the missiles’ intended targets were not immediately available.
