KP Sharma Oli Issues Four Point Appeal as National Situation Grows Increasingly Tense

CPN UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has expressed serious concern over escalating tensions, the use of force by state authorities and the loss of life in Sunsari, Siraha and other parts of the country. He has issued a four point appeal calling for restraint, social harmony, political cooperation and national unity.

In a press statement issued by the UML Central Office on Thursday, Oli said the party had taken serious note of the tense situation that had developed over recent days in Dewanganj Rural Municipality of Sunsari and the use of force during the unrest.

He referred to the death of local youth Om Prakash Mehta in the Dewanganj incident and the fatal shooting of Ganesh Yadav in Siraha on Thursday. Oli said the deaths, along with reports of other citizens being seriously injured, had left the party deeply shocked and distressed.

He also expressed concern that the violence had continued to intensify in Siraha and other locations instead of subsiding.

Oli paid tribute to those who lost their lives, extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a swift recovery.

Describing the situation in the country as complex and highly sensitive, Oli presented a four point appeal to citizens, political parties and other concerned stakeholders.

In the first point, he called for restraint and the preservation of social harmony. He stated that unity and fraternity among citizens were the strength of the nation and urged the public to remain alert to possible attempts to divide communities in pursuit of undesirable objectives.

He appealed to leaders and cadres of the UML and other political parties, civil society representatives, media professionals and the wider public not to follow misleading propaganda. He also urged them to remain calm and play an active role in protecting social harmony and national unity.

In the second point, Oli questioned the government’s conduct and silence. He said protecting citizens’ lives, resolving problems through dialogue and guiding the country towards peace were among the government’s primary responsibilities.

Oli described the government’s apparent indifference, excessive use of force and continued silence, even as national security and public order became increasingly fragile, as highly suspicious and condemnable.

He urged the government to immediately halt violent measures and seek a solution through dialogue without further delay.

In the third point, Oli stressed the need for cooperation among political parties. He said that as the country passed through an exceptional crisis, major political forces should rise above rivalry, mutual accusations and the pursuit of short term popularity.

He called on them to cooperate in maintaining peace, security and political stability.

In the fourth point, Oli appealed to all sections of society to unite in defence of national unity and peace.

He stated that conflict and violence could not resolve the country’s problems and that only dialogue, consensus and responsible cooperation could provide a way out of the current crisis.

Warning that the country’s existence, peace, security and social harmony were coming under growing threat, Oli urged political parties, civil society, intellectuals and leaders of different religious and social communities to unite in the national interest and work towards restoring peace.
