President Ramchandra Paudel has expressed concern over the difficult situation emerging in Sunsari and several parts of the Madhesh region, calling on all sides to preserve Nepal’s longstanding social, religious and ethnic harmony, tolerance, reconciliation, fraternity and national unity.
In an appeal issued on Thursday, President Paudel said social and religious tolerance, mutual understanding, fraternity and communal harmony had remained central to Nepal’s identity and tradition for centuries.
“I urge all political parties, civil society and Nepali sisters and brothers to preserve these values, maintain peace, security and public order, and further strengthen national unity,” he said.
The President expressed confidence that the government would make every possible effort to normalise the situation at the earliest opportunity, restore peace and public order, and create an environment in which citizens could continue their lives peacefully.
“At this difficult time, I make a heartfelt appeal to everyone to prevent the situation from becoming more complicated and to maintain unity, mutual goodwill, friendship and tolerance among communities,” President Paudel stated.
He also called for a thorough investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incidents, strict legal action against those responsible and greater vigilance among all concerned parties to prevent similar events from recurring.
President Paudel paid tribute to those who lost their lives, extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a swift recovery.
