The government has introduced a provision requiring education and health equity fees collected so far to be refunded to the concerned service recipients within 15 days.

A government notice granting a full exemption from the education and health equity fees was published in the Nepal Gazette on Thursday. Exercising the authority granted under Section 18(1) of the Financial Act, 2083, the government has fully exempted the education equity fee imposed under Section 16 and the health equity fee imposed under Section 17.

Prime Minister Balendra Shah had announced on Shrawan 5 that the education and health equity fees would not be implemented. The government subsequently initiated the process of abolishing the charges.

According to the notice issued by Finance Secretary Dr. Ghanshyam Upadhyay, any person or institution that has collected education or health equity fees must refund the amount to the respective payer within 15 days from the date of publication of the notice.

The notice further states that any amount that cannot be returned to the concerned service recipient within the stipulated period must be deposited into the Federal Consolidated Fund.
