Six-Point Agreement Reached Between Families of Sunsari Victims and Home Ministry

The families of Om Prakash Mehta and Jay Prakash Mehta, who lost their lives in the incident at Kamanganj in Dewanganj Rural Municipality–3, Sunsari, on Shrawan 10, have reached a six-point agreement with the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Under the agreement reached on Thursday night, the government will immediately initiate the process of declaring both victims martyrs. It has also committed to providing Rs 1 million in compensation to each bereaved family.

The agreement states that an impartial and effective investigation into the incident will be conducted and that legal proceedings against those found responsible will be initiated immediately in accordance with prevailing laws.

It also provides for an investigation into the legal status of the madrasa located in Dewanganj–3 and other related matters.

The two sides further agreed that one eligible member from each bereaved family would be provided with an employment opportunity.

Necessary procedures will also be initiated to implement the recommendations and suggestions contained in the report to be submitted by the investigation committee formed to study the incident.

The agreement includes a provision to construct a memorial park in memory of the two victims at an appropriate location within the rural municipality, in coordination with the local government.

The agreement was signed by the parents of Om Prakash Mehta and Jay Prakash Mehta and Home Minister Sudan Gurung on behalf of the government.
