Home Minister Pledges Full Implementation of Agreement With Families of Dewanganj Victims

Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has said the government will fully implement the agreement reached with the families of Om Prakash Mehta and Jay Prakash Mehta, who lost their lives in the incident at Kaptanganj in Dewanganj Rural Municipality–3, Sunsari.

Responding through a post on Facebook, Home Minister Gurung said the Government of Nepal remains fully committed to truth, justice, the rule of law and public confidence.

He paid tribute to both victims and expressed deep condolences to their bereaved families. He said the process of declaring the two victims martyrs would be initiated immediately in accordance with the agreement reached with their families.

Under the agreement, each bereaved family will receive Rs 1 million in relief. An impartial and effective investigation will be conducted, and those found responsible will face legal action in accordance with prevailing laws. Necessary studies will also be carried out on related legal and policy matters.

One eligible member from each victim’s family will be provided with an employment opportunity. The government will also take the necessary decisions and implementation measures based on the findings and recommendations of the investigation committee.

Home Minister Gurung further said the government would coordinate with the local authorities to construct a memorial park in honour of the two victims.
