Nepal–China Mutual Cooperation Society Extends Greetings to President Xi and Ambassador Zhang on 71st Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations

The Nepal–China Mutual Cooperation Society has sent separate messages of congratulations to Chinese President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Xi Jinping and Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming on the 71st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and the People’s Republic of China.

Society President Prem Sagar Poudel extended warm congratulations and best wishes for continued progress, peace and prosperity to President Xi, the Chinese government and the great and friendly people of China on the historic occasion of August 1.

In the message addressed to President Xi, Poudel said Nepal–China relations, formally established on August 1, 1955, have remained firmly founded on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, mutual respect, sovereign equality, mutual trust, and respect for each other’s sensitivities and core interests.

He said that over more than seven decades, relations between the two countries have been strengthened not only by geographical proximity but also by ancient civilizational connections, cultural exchanges and enduring friendship between their peoples.

The message noted that China’s economic, scientific, technological and social achievements under President Xi’s leadership have brought historic improvements to the lives of the Chinese people and made significant contributions to global development, peace and cooperation.

The Society said President Xi’s vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind has offered a new path for international relations based on equality, peaceful coexistence and common prosperity.

Reaffirming its unwavering support for the one-China principle, the Society said preventing Nepali territory from being used for activities directed against China is a fundamental matter concerning mutual trust between the two countries and Nepal’s own national interest.

It added that the Society has continued to contribute toward this objective to the best of its capacity.

The message expressed confidence that practical cooperation would further expand under the Belt and Road Initiative, the Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network, infrastructure development, trade, investment, tourism, education, health, science and technology, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

In a separate message addressed to Ambassador Zhang Maoming, the Society said Nepal–China diplomatic relations have developed into an exemplary relationship between neighbouring countries founded on mutual respect, sovereign equality, non-interference, peaceful coexistence and shared interests.

It said the friendship built by Nepal and China on the basis of equality and mutual respect remains an inspiring example for the international community despite differences in political systems, geographical size and levels of development.

The Society expressed satisfaction over the continued expansion of high-level political trust, development cooperation, infrastructure connectivity, trade, tourism, education, health, culture and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

It also described China’s support as highly valuable to Nepal’s efforts toward economic transformation, development and prosperity.

Reaffirming full respect for matters concerning China’s sovereignty, national unity and territorial integrity, the Society stressed the need to strengthen cooperation among civil society organisations, the media, academic institutions and younger generations.

Such cooperation, it said, would help promote a transparent and trust-based Nepal–China relationship free from misinformation, misunderstanding and undue external influence.

The Society expressed hope that Ambassador Zhang’s tenure would further accelerate efforts to translate political trust into practical cooperation, advance projects delivering tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries, and expand civilizational, cultural and people-to-people connections.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to continued cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in promoting friendship, mutual understanding, people-to-people ties and cooperation in areas of shared interest.

Poudel wished for Nepal–China relations to become stronger, more productive and increasingly people-centred, while extending his best wishes for President Xi’s good health, long life and continued successful leadership, as well as Ambassador Zhang’s successful tenure.
