Man Arrested for Allegedly Spreading Misleading Content Through YouTube Channel

Nepal Police’s Cyber Bureau has arrested a man for allegedly spreading misleading information and rumours through a YouTube channel.

The arrested man has been identified as 39-year-old Janak Bhusal, a permanent resident of Sandhikharka Municipality–9 in Arghakhanchi who currently lives in Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City–13 of Rupandehi. He was arrested on Saturday, according to the bureau.

The Cyber Bureau said Bhusal had been operating a YouTube channel named “Nepali Khabar TV,” through which he allegedly broadcast unverified and fabricated incidents as though they had actually occurred.

During the investigation, police found videos carrying misleading headlines and claims, including reports that the home minister had been attacked and suffered a head injury, despite no such incident having taken place.

“He was found to have prepared and disseminated misleading video content, spread rumours and further provoked individuals and groups involved in ethnic and religious violence and destructive activities,” the bureau said in a statement.

Police said such content could negatively affect social harmony, public peace and the security situation.

The Cyber Bureau said further investigation and legal proceedings against Bhusal were underway under the prevailing laws related to electronic transactions.
