Nepal and Russia Discuss Expansion of Trade and Economic Cooperation

Nepal’s Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Gauri Kumari Yadav, and Russian Ambassador to Nepal A.V. Surovtsev have discussed ways to expand bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

According to the Russian Embassy in Nepal, the meeting held last week focused on potential areas for strengthening trade, supply-related coordination and broader economic partnership between Nepal and Russia.

During the meeting, the Russian Embassy requested the Nepali side to provide relevant information on several sectors that could support the promotion of bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

The Russian side emphasised that the exchange of information would be important for identifying available commercial opportunities, expanding contacts between relevant institutions and business communities, and advancing mutually beneficial economic partnerships.

Although Nepal and Russia have maintained diplomatic relations for decades, the volume of bilateral trade remains limited. The latest engagement is therefore being viewed as an effort to translate political goodwill into more practical economic cooperation.
