Russian President Vladimir Putin and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva have held a telephone conversation focused on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding trade and coordinating their positions on major international issues.

The conversation took place at the initiative of the Brazilian side, according to an official Russian statement.

The two leaders reviewed progress following the meeting of the Russian–Brazilian High-Level Cooperation Commission held earlier this year, as well as other recent contacts between the two countries.

President Putin and President Lula discussed ways to deepen cooperation across various sectors, with particular attention given to expanding the volume of bilateral trade and diversifying its structure.

They also exchanged views on current international issues, including the situation surrounding Ukraine.

President Putin thanked his Brazilian counterpart for his efforts to support the search for a political and diplomatic settlement of the Ukraine conflict.

The two presidents confirmed that Russia and Brazil hold identical or closely aligned positions on many important global issues.

They also agreed to maintain close coordination within the United Nations and other multilateral platforms.

The conversation reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to strengthening practical economic cooperation, broadening bilateral trade and further developing the Russia–Brazil partnership in international affairs.
