Russia has said that 49 civilians, including four children, were killed and another 342 people were injured in Ukrainian attacks between July 27 and August 2.
According to a weekly report released by Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a total of 391 civilians were affected during the seven-day period. Among the injured were 16 minors.
Miroshnik said Ukrainian forces carried out coordinated attacks on residential areas, energy infrastructure, and transport and logistics facilities serving the civilian population. The attacks caused casualties and extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, according to the Russian account.
The highest numbers of civilian casualties were recorded in the Belgorod Region, the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Lugansk People’s Republic, and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
The Russian Foreign Ministry alleged that densely populated areas had been deliberately targeted in an attempt to inflict maximum damage. No immediate official Ukrainian response to the latest Russian allegations was available.
Miroshnik also said drone attacks on passenger buses had become increasingly frequent. According to him, Ukrainian drones had targeted 34 passenger buses across various Russian regions during the previous two months.
The Russian side said Ukrainian forces fired at least 6,974 munitions and other projectiles at civilian targets in Russian-controlled territories between July 27 and August 2.
The Russian Foreign Ministry described attacks on civilian transport, energy facilities and infrastructure directly supporting daily life as serious violations of international humanitarian law and said the incidents would be raised at international forums.
The figures were compiled by Russian authorities. As independent and immediate verification of every incident in active conflict zones remains difficult, the casualty figures and attribution of responsibility should be understood as the official position of the Russian side.
