‘Nepal–Russia: Dimensions of Bilateral Relations’ Launched to Mark 70 Years of Diplomatic Ties

A new book titled “Nepal–Russia: Dimensions of Bilateral Relations,” authored by Ram Bindu Shrestha, has been launched to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Russia.

The book was unveiled in the presence of Vishnu B. Singh, President of the Nepal–Russia Literary Society and Chairperson of the program; Rinchen Rakshaev, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Nepal and Chief Guest; former Nepali Ambassador to the Russian Federation Milan Raj Tuladhar; Chancellor of Nepal Bhasha Academy Krishna Sundar Malla; Anastasia Khokhlova, Counsellor of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Nepal and Head of the Russian House in Kathmandu; former Nepali Ambassador to the Russian Federation Hiranya Lal Shrestha; NRLS Vice President Chandra Kant Acharya; and author Ram Bindu Shrestha.

The ceremony began with the traditional offering of Khadas to the distinguished guests. Diplomats, scholars, literary figures, academicians and well-wishers of Nepal–Russia relations attended the event.

Chief Guest Rakshaev highlighted the important role of literature in strengthening cultural ties between the two countries. He described the publication of the book as a significant step in commemorating and documenting the longstanding diplomatic relationship between Nepal and Russia.

Former ambassadors Milan Raj Tuladhar and Hiranya Lal Shrestha, together with Nepal Bhasha Academy Chancellor Krishna Sundar Malla, praised the publication as a valuable contribution to documenting the different dimensions of Nepal–Russia relations.

Khokhlova described the event as a fine example of cultural cooperation between the two countries and referred to the book as an important addition to the collection of shared Nepal–Russia heritage.

Published to mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations established between Nepal and the then Soviet Union in 1956, the book explores the history of bilateral diplomacy, economic cooperation, cultural and literary exchanges, tourism, and the contributions made by both countries to the development of their relationship.

During the program, Certificates of Appreciation were presented by the Chief Guest to writers and literary contributors to the Russia–Nepal 70th Anniversary Commemorative Poetry Anthology.

Letters of appreciation were also presented to 20 Nepali women poets and two Nepali poet-translators who contributed to the poetry collection “About the Motherland and Love.” The letters were signed by V.A. Dzhanibekov, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Society for Cooperation and Friendship with Nepal (OSDN), twice honoured as a Hero of the Soviet Union and a Soviet cosmonaut, and by OSDN President M.S. Nekrasov.

Concluding the program, Nepal–Russia Literary Society President Vishnu B. Singh expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to the publication of the book and the successful organization of the event.

Released during the 70th year of Nepal–Russia diplomatic relations, the book seeks to bring together in a single volume the political, diplomatic, economic, literary and cultural dimensions of a relationship developed over seven decades.
