Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom has begun returning specialists to the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant in Iran.
Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev said the first five engineering personnel had already arrived at the project site and resumed their work. Their return has brought the total number of Russian specialists currently working at Bushehr to 25.
Likhachev said Rosatom plans to send several dozen additional employees to the nuclear power plant over the next two weeks. He noted, however, that the pace of the deployment would depend on whether tensions between the United States and Iran escalate again.
If the security situation remains stable, Rosatom plans to increase the number of its personnel working at the Bushehr project to around 100 by autumn.
The company also intends to return all specialists who were previously evacuated from Iran as soon as conditions permit.
According to Likhachev, a full return to pre-conflict staffing levels would only be possible after the United States and Iran reach a final agreement ending hostilities.
Meanwhile, construction of the main and auxiliary buildings for Units 2 and 3 at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant is continuing. Preparatory work is also underway on hydraulic engineering facilities connected with the project.
The gradual return of Russian specialists to Bushehr reflects efforts to maintain continuity in Russia–Iran civilian nuclear energy cooperation as security conditions allow.
