Russian air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 285 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over several regions during a 12-hour period, the Russian Defence Ministry said.
According to the ministry, the drones were intercepted between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Moscow time on August 9.
The ministry said the unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed over Crimea, as well as the Belgorod, Kursk, Bryansk, Tula, Lipetsk, Ryazan, Oryol, Kaluga and Moscow regions and the Republic of Bashkortostan.
Russian authorities have reported an increasing frequency of long-range drone attacks against different parts of the country amid the continuing conflict in Ukraine, prompting the activation of air defence and counter-drone systems across several regions.
There was no immediate detailed response from the Ukrainian side regarding the Russian Defence Ministry’s latest figures.
Russia considers Crimea part of its territory, while Ukraine and most of the international community continue to recognize the peninsula as Ukrainian territory.
