Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Novosibirsk in western Siberia following a working visit to the eastern Siberian region of Buryatia.
His visit is focused on regional development issues as well as progress in science and technology.
Novosibirsk Region Governor Andrey Travnikov also heads the Russian State Council’s commission on science, giving the visit added significance in the context of Russia’s broader scientific and technological priorities.
Putin is expected to discuss regional administration, research development, technological innovation and scientific infrastructure during the visit.
His previous visit to Novosibirsk took place in August 2018, when he participated in the Tekhnoprom forum.
The latest visit, eight years later, comes as Russia continues to place greater emphasis on linking regional development with national priorities in science, technology and innovation.
