The 14th Yak Culture Festival has concluded on the Hongyuan grassland in China, featuring a wide range of cultural, traditional and community-based activities.

Held in early August at the Yak Music Park, the festival brought together guests from different sectors, tourists from various regions and members of multiple ethnic communities. The event presented the grassland, yak husbandry, local culture and the traditional lifestyle of pastoral communities on a single platform.

Among the major attractions were yak-riding and yak beauty competitions. Organizers said the participation of local pastoral women and yaks highlighted the traditional way of life on the grasslands, the close relationship between people and livestock, and the distinctive beauty of local culture.

The powerful yaks featured during the festival symbolized the historical depth and continuing vitality of pastoral culture. In Hongyuan, yaks are closely connected not only to the livestock economy but also to local identity, community life and cultural traditions.

On August 4, young and adult participants from different areas took part in yak-riding competitions, while a separate riding event was organized for children. The activities were also intended to encourage the transmission of traditional pastoral skills and culture to younger generations.

Large numbers of spectators attended the festival in person, while many others followed the events through online broadcasts. The competitions and cultural performances received an enthusiastic response from audiences.

The annual Yak Culture Festival has increasingly become an important platform for promoting Hongyuan’s intangible cultural heritage, folk traditions, pastoral culture, ethnic heritage and distinctive local products.

The event has also helped strengthen Hongyuan’s cultural tourism profile by linking tourism with local products, livestock traditions and community-based economic activity.

Local authorities say such cultural and tourism initiatives are contributing to rural development by creating new opportunities for pastoral and farming communities, expanding markets for local products and supporting income growth.

The 14th Yak Culture Festival once again highlighted Hongyuan’s effort to preserve traditional pastoral culture while connecting it with modern tourism and local economic development.
