Filming has begun for “A Mero Hajur 5,” the fifth instalment of one of Nepali cinema’s best-known romantic film series, with Anmol KC and Suhana Thapa returning in the lead roles under the direction of actress-filmmaker Jharana Thapa.
The production formally commenced on Friday following a ceremonial worship programme at the Banglamukhi Temple in Lalitpur. Initial filming is taking place in Kathmandu, while significant portions of the film are also scheduled to be shot in the Badimalika region of Bajura in far-western Nepal.
The decision to film at Badimalika adds a distinctive geographical and cultural dimension to the project. Known for its religious importance, high-altitude landscape and dramatic natural setting, the area remains relatively underused as a location in mainstream Nepali cinema.
The film also reunites Anmol KC and Suhana Thapa, who previously appeared together in “A Mero Hajur 3” and “A Mero Hajur 4.” Their return for the fifth instalment continues an on-screen partnership closely associated with the recent development of the series.
Sunil Kumar Thapa is producing the film. The “A Mero Hajur” series has established a recognisable position within Nepal’s mainstream romantic cinema, combining relationships, family themes, music and commercially oriented storytelling.
Jharana Thapa, who transitioned from a successful acting career into filmmaking, has directed the more recent instalments of the series. Her work has generally sought to connect established conventions of Nepali romantic cinema with younger audiences through contemporary casting, music and visual presentation.
Detailed information about the storyline of “A Mero Hajur 5” has not yet been publicly disclosed. The decision to use locations including Badimalika, however, suggests that the production is seeking to broaden the visual landscape of the series beyond familiar urban settings.
The producers are targeting a theatrical release in Baisakh 2084, corresponding to April-May 2027.
With filming now underway, the reunion of Anmol KC and Suhana Thapa, Jharana Thapa’s return as director and the inclusion of one of Nepal’s distinctive high-altitude cultural landscapes have given “A Mero Hajur 5” an early position among the notable upcoming productions in Nepali commercial cinema.
