Police in Mustang have detained eight drivers along with eight suspicious containers from the tourist checkpoint at Jomsom in Gharpajhong Rural Municipality-4 and sent them to the Revenue Investigation Office in Hariharbhawan, Lalitpur for further investigation.

Acting on confidential information about the possible transportation of illegal goods, a police team deployed from the District Police Office, Mustang, inspected the documents of several containers and questioned their drivers at the Jomsom tourist checkpoint at around noon on Saturday.

During the preliminary inspection, police found that the containers had reportedly been sealed and transported directly without undergoing the required checks at the customs yard.

As this raised suspicion that the containers could be carrying illegal or undeclared goods, police took all eight vehicles and their drivers into custody.

The containers and drivers were subsequently sent under police escort to the Revenue Investigation Office in Hariharbhawan for further examination, investigation and necessary legal action.

Authorities have not yet disclosed what goods are inside the containers. The Revenue Investigation Office is expected to open and inspect them to determine the nature and quantity of the cargo, verify customs and revenue-related documents, and examine whether any irregularities were involved.

Police said the containers were detained on the basis of preliminary suspicion, and whether they contain illegal goods will be established only after a detailed investigation by the Revenue Investigation Office.
