Eight Killed, 12 Rescued in Bhotekoshi Flash Flood

At least eight people have been confirmed dead after a massive flash flood swept through the Bhotekoshi River in northern Nepal on Wednesday morning.

According to Nepal Police, four bodies were recovered in Nuwakot district and another four in Dhading district.

Nepal Police spokesperson Abi Narayan Kafle said the flood affected Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts, causing widespread damage to settlements and infrastructure.

Prime Minister Balendra Shah has called an emergency Cabinet meeting to discuss search, rescue and relief measures following the disaster.

The Nepal Army, supported by Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force Nepal and other agencies, has intensified search and rescue operations in the affected districts. The Army said 12 people had been rescued so far.

The most severe damage has been reported in Rasuwa, where the flood swept away several houses and damaged market areas, hydropower projects, roads and other infrastructure.

Rasuwa Assistant Chief District Officer Dhruva Prasad Adhikari said several people were still reported missing and that rescue operations were continuing.

A full assessment of the damage has yet to be completed. Authorities are continuing search operations in river corridors and other affected areas while urging residents in downstream locations to remain alert.
