US Sends First Shipment of Emergency Relief Supplies for Rasuwa Flood Victims

The United States has sent its first shipment of emergency relief supplies requested by the Government of Nepal for people affected by the devastating floods in Rasuwa.
Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Nepal Scott Urbom on Friday dispatched the first shipment of emergency supplies provided by the United States for flood-affected communities in Nepal.
According to the U.S. Embassy, Catholic Relief Services, working through its implementing partner Caritas Nepal, will deliver the assistance to two school locations in Rasuwa being used to support communities affected by the disaster.
The first shipment includes more than 2.5 metric tons of food supplies, 500 blankets, 500 mosquito nets and 500 insulating foam sheets intended for flooring in temporary shelters.
The United States said the assistance is being provided on the basis of needs identified by the Government of Nepal. The U.S. Embassy is closely coordinating with the Nepal government, Catholic Relief Services and Caritas Nepal to ensure that the assistance reaches people who need it most.
The embassy said additional shipments would follow the initial delivery. The contents of subsequent shipments will be determined according to Nepal’s evolving requirements and conditions in the disaster-affected areas.
The United States had earlier announced emergency assistance worth USD 500,000 for communities affected by the Rasuwa floods. The assistance is expected to support emergency shelter, essential relief supplies, and water, sanitation and hygiene needs through Catholic Relief Services.
The United States has also said it is supporting Nepal’s broader disaster response efforts through coordination with government authorities and humanitarian partners.
The assistance comes as international partners begin mobilizing emergency support following the deadly floods and landslides that caused significant human and material losses in Rasuwa and downstream areas.
China has also decided at the highest political level to provide emergency assistance to Nepal following the disaster.
The Government of Nepal is currently prioritizing search and rescue operations, medical treatment for the injured, temporary shelter for displaced families, and the provision of food and other essential relief supplies while coordinating with national and international partners.
