China’s Qinghai Promotes Nomadic Culture Through Traditional Yak-Wool Weaving

Traditional nomadic culture and yak-wool weaving skills are being promoted through eco-cultural tourism activities in the Golog region of Qinghai Province, China.

During the 4th Nina Tricolor Padma Eco-Cultural Tourism Season, local communities showcased traditional techniques for spinning and weaving yak wool, alongside elements of nomadic life, clothing, handicrafts and other cultural practices.

For communities living in high-altitude areas, the yak is not only a source of livestock-based livelihood but also an important part of daily life, clothing, shelter and traditional craftsmanship. The practice of producing textiles and other useful items from yak wool remains an important element of local cultural heritage.

The tourism program aims to help pass these traditional skills to younger generations while also expanding markets for local products and promoting cultural tourism.

In recent years, efforts in the Golog region have increasingly focused on linking natural landscapes, nomadic lifestyles and traditional Tibetan cultural heritage with tourism development.
