Bhote Koshi Disaster Death Toll Reaches 1,058, 12 Russian Citizens Still Out of Contact

The death toll from the devastating flood and mudflow that struck the Bhote Koshi River in northern Nepal on August 26 has reached 1,058, while around 3,900 people remain out of contact.

According to the latest update from the Russian Embassy in Nepal, search and rescue operations are continuing in the affected areas. The embassy said it remains in contact with the families of 12 Russian citizens who were in the disaster zone but have not yet been reached.

Senior Russian officials have also conveyed condolences and support to the families of the victims and the people of Nepal through their Nepali counterparts. Those expressing sympathy include Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Federation Council, Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma, Igor Krasnov, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, and Ella Pamfilova, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission.

Meanwhile, the Republic of Kalmykia has expressed readiness to send a team of medical specialists to Nepal. Kalmykia head Batu Khasikov had earlier conveyed deep condolences and wished strength and resilience to the Nepali people.

Search operations for the missing, identification of bodies and relief efforts are continuing in the disaster-affected areas.
