Russia has warned that it will respond swiftly to Germany’s decision to close the Russian Consulate General in Bonn. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said Moscow would take whatever measures it considers appropriate.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum, Grushko said Russia would respond once it was ready and indicated that the process would not be prolonged. “I think this will not be drawn out, everything will be very quick,” he said.

The German government on Tuesday officially held Russia responsible for the drone incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport and announced a series of countermeasures. Among them is the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Bonn on September 18.

Germany also announced the termination of the agreement governing the activities of the Russian House in Berlin and tighter entry controls for Russian citizens.
