‘World Roof Cup’ Basketball Tournament Opens in Aba, Winner to Receive 120,000 Yuan

The 2026 “World Roof Cup” invitational basketball tournament has opened in Aba County, Sichuan Province, China. The competition, being held at the Aba County Sports Center, has brought together strong club and university teams from different regions.

Participating teams include Gannan M2, Snowland Eagles, Xizang 5100 Beer, Huaqiao University and other club and higher-education teams from within and outside the province. The championship team will receive a prize of 120,000 yuan.

Held in a high-altitude environment, the tournament has featured fast-paced attacks, intense defense and highly competitive play. According to the organizers, the participating teams have demonstrated strong physical ability, coordination and competitive spirit despite the challenging plateau conditions.

Huaqiao University player Guo Youcheng is visiting Aba for the first time. He said the area has beautiful natural scenery and that local basketball fans are highly enthusiastic. He added that his team hopes to demonstrate its fighting spirit and strong performance to spectators and basketball enthusiasts in Aba.

According to the organizers, the “World Roof Cup” is not only a high-level basketball competition, but also a platform for promoting local cultural exchanges, enriching the sporting and cultural life of residents, and strengthening Aba’s identity as a plateau sports destination.

The seven-day tournament is scheduled to conclude with the final at the Aba County Sports Center on the evening of September 3. The event is expected to further promote the popularity of basketball in the plateau region and strengthen links among sports, tourism and local cultural activities.
