Russia and China are further expanding investment and economic cooperation, with around 90 joint projects worth approximately $240 billion currently supported under their bilateral investment cooperation mechanism. More than half of these projects have already entered the implementation stage.

Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov and Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang held a meeting of the Russia-China Intergovernmental Commission on Investment Cooperation on September 3 on the sidelines of the 11th Eastern Economic Forum.

According to the Russian government, bilateral trade between Russia and China grew by 22 percent in the first half of 2026 and exceeded $135 billion.

Manturov said expanding investment cooperation is helping create a solid foundation for further sustainable growth in bilateral trade. He added that creating comfortable and predictable conditions for continued investment expansion remains a key priority.

Joint projects supported by the commission cover a wide range of sectors, including metallurgy, chemicals and forestry, mechanical engineering, agriculture, transport, trade and logistics.

The fact that more than half of the projects are already being implemented indicates that Russia-China economic cooperation is moving beyond traditional commodity trade toward deeper industrial, production and long-term investment partnerships.

The commission identified several near-term priorities, including continuous monitoring and targeted support for projects, improving business awareness of investment opportunities, and developing new mechanisms and financial instruments to attract funding for investment projects.

Russia-China economic ties, which have traditionally been strongly linked to energy and commodity trade, are increasingly expanding into manufacturing, agriculture, infrastructure, transport, logistics and other productive sectors.

The scale of the joint project portfolio, valued at about $240 billion, highlights the growing role of investment cooperation as an important economic pillar of the broader strategic partnership between Moscow and Beijing.
