Xizang Provides Nepal Emergency Aid Including Two Bailey Bridges

China’s Xizang Autonomous Region has provided Nepal with emergency assistance, including materials sufficient to assemble two Bailey bridges, to help restore transportation links and support rescue and relief operations in disaster-affected areas.

The emergency supplies were formally handed over to the Nepali side at Rizi Port in Shigatse on September 4.

The shipment includes specialized equipment such as Bailey bridge panels, reinforced suspension rods, support frames, bridge decking and I-beams. The materials are sufficient to assemble two Bailey bridges.

The bridges will be used to help restore damaged roads and vital transportation links in Nepal’s flood- and landslide-affected areas, facilitating ongoing rescue and relief operations.

A bilingual banner displayed at Rizi Port read: “Shared Mountains, Shared Rivers — United in Weal and Woe: Xizang Rushes to Nepal’s Aid.” The message highlighted solidarity and mutual support between Nepal and China during times of disaster.

On the same day, a handover ceremony was also held in Lhasa between the Foreign Affairs Office of the Xizang Autonomous Region and the Consulate General of Nepal in Lhasa.

Nepal’s Consul General in Lhasa, Lakshmi Prasad Nirola, signed the handover certificate on behalf of the Nepali side.

The Nepali side expressed gratitude for China’s swift response following the disaster and for the timely assistance provided by the Xizang Autonomous Region.

It said the assistance reflected the close friendship between Nepal and Xizang, which are connected by shared mountains and rivers and have continued to support each other during times of hardship.

The assistance was also described as a practical demonstration of efforts to build a China-Nepal community with a shared future.
