Putin-U.S. Negotiators Meeting Covers Ukraine Settlement and Potential Russia-U.S. Projects

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow was substantive, constructive and extremely frank, Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov said. According to him, the talks lasted three hours and 10 minutes.

Ushakov said Witkoff and Kushner had pledged to use the assessments and views presented by Putin on possible ways to resolve the Ukraine conflict during their upcoming contacts in Kyiv.

He said the U.S. representatives had prepared seriously for their visit to Moscow and had presented a number of ideas and considerations regarding possible approaches to a settlement.

According to Ushakov, Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump will continue to maintain personal contact, while dialogue through Witkoff and Kushner will also continue.

During the meeting, Putin briefed the U.S. side on what Moscow described as progress made by Russian forces in the ongoing military operation and expressed confidence that Russia would achieve its stated objectives.

Putin also reiterated that a lasting settlement of the Ukraine conflict would require addressing what Moscow describes as its root causes. He confirmed Russia’s readiness to continue working jointly with the United States in search of political and diplomatic solutions.

Ushakov said Putin also conveyed his strong criticism of the authorities in Kyiv, accusing them of revealing what he described as their true nature by reburying figures associated with Nazism. He said Witkoff and Kushner took note of Putin’s remarks.

The discussions were not limited to Ukraine. According to the Kremlin, the two sides also considered possible large-scale and mutually beneficial Russian-U.S. projects.

Ushakov described the overall talks as timely and useful, adding that direct dialogue between Russia and the United States would continue.
