China Holds National Training on Modernization of Grassland Animal Husbandry

A national-level training program on the transformation and upgrading of grassland-based animal husbandry has been held in Hongyuan County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province, China.

The program, organized by the Animal Husbandry Bureau under China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, took place from September 1 to 3.

More than 180 officials and technical experts from agriculture, rural affairs, forestry, grassland and animal husbandry agencies participated in the training. They represented 17 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, including Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Jiangxi and Hubei, as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.

Participants gathered on the vast grasslands of Hongyuan for field visits, specialized training and discussion sessions focused on identifying effective models for transforming and upgrading China’s grassland animal husbandry sector.

The program also facilitated the exchange of experience on promoting high-quality development in pastoral regions while strengthening grassland ecological protection.

As a county whose economy is heavily dependent on animal husbandry, Hongyuan has in recent years focused on five major areas: standardized livestock breeding, large-scale forage cultivation, enterprise-based business operations, professional services and digital management.

Through these measures, animal husbandry has become a major driver of the county’s economic development and an important source of income growth and improved livelihoods for local herding communities.

The training reflected China’s broader effort to combine livestock productivity, grassland conservation, scientific management, technological application and rural income growth within a more modern and sustainable pastoral development model.
