Behavior Grades Introduced for Grades 2–8 in Russian Pilot Schools, Minister Says

Russia is introducing a new system of behavior assessment for students in Grades 2 through 8 at selected pilot schools.

Russian Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov said in an interview with TASS that the behavior grade will not be included in students’ regular academic marks or interim assessments and will have no impact on their final school certificate.

According to Kravtsov, the assessment will remain separate from academic performance and will not influence a student’s formal educational record.

The new system is initially being introduced on a pilot basis in selected schools. It is intended to provide a separate assessment of students’ conduct, discipline and behavior within the school environment.

The pilot programme is expected to help Russian education authorities evaluate how the system works in practice before any decision is made on its possible broader application.
