Tibetan Ancient Texts Exhibition and Book Donation Held in Qinghai

An exhibition showcasing achievements in the editing and publication of Tibetan ancient texts, along with a book donation ceremony, was held in Xining, Qinghai Province, on September 6, 2026.

The event was organized by the Sichuan Tibetan Ancient Texts Editing Institute and brought together more than 200 participants, including officials, experts, representatives of cultural institutions and people involved in public welfare from Beijing, Qinghai, Sichuan, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Yunnan and Guangdong.

Speakers at the event described the editing, publication and distribution of Tibetan ancient texts as an important means of preserving and revitalizing cultural heritage. They said making the knowledge contained in ancient manuscripts accessible to modern readers helps bring historical texts back into active intellectual and cultural use.

The donated publications cover a wide range of subjects, including philosophy, logic, medicine, linguistics and ecological and environmental protection. The collection is expected to support research into Tibetan intellectual traditions and broaden access to historical knowledge preserved in the Tibetan language.

Books were donated to more than 30 institutions, including the Qinghai Provincial Library, Xining City Library, Haixi Prefecture Library, Hainan Prefecture Library, Huangnan Prefecture Library, Golog Prefecture Library, Yushu Prefecture Library, Qinghai University Library and the archival center of the Tibetan Studies institute at Qinghai Minzu University.

Organizers said the donation programme is intended to expand public access to reading materials in ethnic areas and promote a stronger culture of reading.

The Qinghai event is the second major stop in the Sichuan Tibetan Ancient Texts Editing Institute’s book donation initiative. A similar programme was carried out in Sichuan in 2025.

The institute plans to deepen cooperation with relevant institutions in Qinghai in the preservation of ancient texts, training of specialists, digital archiving, institutional collaboration and promotion of public reading.

Organizers said the broader objective is not only to preserve Tibetan ancient texts, but also to bring them to new generations through systematic editing, publication, digitization and wider public access.
